An after school program that offers lessons for grades 1 through 6; this service offers basic instruction on how to cook simple meals and learn basic cooking techniques. Classes are currently being held at various Rochester schools on weekdays, from 4 - 5:30pm and 6 - 7:30pm. Contact Rata2ee for a location and timings near you!

 

Our curriculum is based on the most current and up-to-date Dietary Guidelines for Americans (2010), guide-lines that recommend less sodium, sugar, and fats; more whole grains; smaller protein portions; and more nutrient-dense vegetable servings. Children will learn:

 

  1. Where food comes from and how it’s grown

  2. How to create a balanced meal using MyPlate (www.choosemyplate.gov)

  3. Hands-on instruction on cooking techniques, to include:

  • Knife Basics (cutting skills)

  • Cooking Fundamentals

  • Nutrition (reading labels)

  • Food Science

  • Kitchen Safety

  • Proper Food Handling

  • Menu Planning/Food Presentation

FALL SESSION 1: RATA2EE RATATOUILLE

 

Registration: 9/21-10/4 = $120 + $32 materials fee

Make hearty 1-pot meals, which are great for chilly autumn evenings, for 4 weeks, starting 10/6/15 – 10/27/15. Week 1 includes instructions on knife basics, kitchen safety, and sanitation. Young chefs will start each class eating a pre-made snack, then will make a serving of the following to eat or take home; week 6 ends the session with Halloween theme fun!

 

WEEK 1: RATATOUILLE & QUINOA

WEEK 2: SPAGHETTI BAKE & GARLIC BREAD

WEEK 3: CHICKEN POT-PIE STEW & CHEDDAR BISCUITS

WEEK 4: S”CREAMY” MAC N’ CHEESE

 

FALL SESSION 2: BAKER’S BONANZA

 

Registration: 10/1-10/28 = $175 + $48 materials fee

Learn baking basics, including what tools to use, measuring dry vs wet ingredients, baking substitutes, and oven safety. This 6-week session runs from 11/3—12/10 and all recipes are from scratch. Young bakers will start each class eating a pre-made snack, then will make a serving of the following to eat or take home. Week 6 ends the session with a Ginger Bread Cookie decorating party!
